Xunantunich is located atop a ridge overlooking the Mopan River. The core of the site consists of six plazas surrounded by more than 25 temples and palaces.
The most iconic structure is "El Castillo," which rises 130 feet above the main plaza. It is famous for its intricate stucco friezes that represent Mayan gods and celestial symbols.
